Closure options
When closing your Betfair account, we offer several different methods of closure:
A. Regular closure
This type of account closure is designed for those who no longer wish to bet with Betfair. They may be unhappy with the service they have received or are moving away for a while. This method of closure will allow you to reopen your account at any time by contacting customer service.
B. Exclusions
As part of our commitment to safer gambling, Betfair provides options to customers who have issues with gambling. One such option is to request a self-exclusion. If you place a self-exclusion, your balance will be transferred to your most recently used payment method. Your account can not be reactivated before the selected period of exclusion expires and you will not receive any marketing or promotional material.
This option allows you to take a break for one of the following periods of time:
- 6 months
- 1 year
- 2 years
- 3 years
- 4 years
- 5 years
- Permanent
In order to reactivate your account once the period of exclusion has expired you will need to contact us.
Spelpaus
Swedish customers have recourse to a national self-exclusion scheme, which allows players to exclude themselves from all gaming operators licensed in Sweden.
You confirm your exclusion with your e-identification, which is currently the only way to confirm your exclusion.
You can choose to exclude for 1, 3, 6 months or until further notice. An exclusion for 1, 3 or 6 months ends automatically when the suspension period has expired. If you choose to exclude until further notice, you can end the exclusion at the earliest after 12 months, otherwise the exclusion will continue until you choose to end it yourself.
The gaming companies must check against Spelpaus.se every time a person registers or logs in to games. The gaming companies must also make such a check before they send out marketing as they are not allowed to send direct mail to an excluded person.
You cannot undo or change the selected exclusion period. When the exclusion period has expired, you can register and play with licensed gaming companies.

C. Short Break
The short break option allows you to take a break for a period of your choice between 1-30 days. Outstanding bets and balance will remain on your account and the break is automatically removed once the selected period is up. To find out more about this click here
D. Request for Deletion
This type of request is designed for those who no longer wish to bet with Betfair and would like their personal data deleted in line with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Your personal data will no longer be processed by Betfair. In order to submit a request please email SubjectRights@betfair.com or alternatively contact our Customer Service Team using the button at the bottom of this page. Should you meet the criteria to be erased, your request will be processed within 30 days. Please be advised that this right is not absolute, and we may be obliged to retain your data after the closure of your account, where legally required to do so.
